Bees enjoying our apple tree

Image
Bees enjoying our apple tree If the number of flours on our crab apple tree is any indication, we are in for a huge harvest of apples this year. And the local bees are very much enjoying the tree. The Amazing Survivor Race

Image
The Amazing Survivor Race This is, I say humbly, the greatest idea in the history of television: CBS must tape seasons of Survivor and The Amazing Race simultaneously. About half-way through the tapings, the Amazing Race teams all end up routed to Survivor Island. The twist in the show is that the last team to the pit stop for that leg of the race doesn't get booted from the show, but changes shows and is now on Survivor, split up and on separate tribes. At the same time, both Survivor tribes go to tribal council separately. The voted off members, however, don't go home - they are told that they have to team up and go on the rest of The Amazing Race. It would be the ultimate twist in both games, would briefly intersect two hit TV shows, and provide at least two episodes of television (one for each show) that would be absolutely must-watch TV, particularly if CBS could pull this off spoiler-free and ensure that no one knows about it before the episodes air. Auto-post from Google+ to Blogger with IFTTT

Image
Auto-post from Google+ to Blogger with IFTTT For a while now I've been wanting to find a way to automatically repost my Google+ content onto my blog. Google+ has an "embed post" option that works very nicely, but it also has to be processed manually every time. Through the magic of + IFTTT , though, there are a couple of ways to accomplish an automatic reposting of your Google+ content to Blogger. + Richard Tan  has created an IFTTT recipe that takes the RSS feed of your Google+ public profile and posts it to Blogger. His directions are here:  http://ift.tt/1oJjZ3Y For whatever reason, I can't get that to work on my blog. However, I've found another way to do it. 1) Go to your Blogger settings --> Mobile and email and set up the posting by email, including the inclusion of your secret word. 2) Go to IFTTT and create a new recipe. a) The IF part of the recipe is the addition of the RSS feed from your Google+ profile. You can get that here:  http://

Vegas mini-vacation recap

Image
Vegas mini-vacation recap We're back from five days in Las Vegas, where the main goal was to try new things we hadn't done before. So, in no particular order: 1) High Roller Observation Wheel: Riding the giant Ferris wheel looking contraption at the Linq does give you a great view of the strip, and I could see why it would be fun to do at night (albeit for a higher ticket price). While we enjoyed this a lot, this strikes me as something you only need to do once and never again. So I'd be a little concerned about the long-term viability of this venture. Particularly since when we went early afternoon and there was basically no one riding it. The Linq area is a really nice addition to the strip. 2) Gordon Ramsay's Burgr at Planet Hollywood: In a word "yum!" We really enjoyed eating here and would return again. I haven't decided if I like this more or less than Kerry's Gourmet Burgers, but either way, Ramsay's burger joint is really good. 3)

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Newsroom is now a mirror of my Google+ profile

I'm a big fan of using Google+ as a blogging platform. And because Google won't do the reasonable thing and just merge Blogger with Google+, and because I like this blog but don't know what to do with it, I've created a way to mirror my Google+ content here on the blog. So what you see below is the content found here:  https://plus.google.com/+MikeJenkinson I had been embedding a lot of my Google+ posts here anyway, but having the content auto-mirrored and posted is way more convenient. If you'd rather just follow me on Google+, that's entirely fine, too.

This is another test

Image
This is another test I'm trying very hard today to find a way to get my Google+ posts to automatically repost on Blogger. This is an IFTTT script I created myself that may (or may not, most likely) send my RSS feed update to email that then triggers a blog post via email on Blogger. Let's see if it works. It's easy to share from Blogger to Google+ but I want to do the reverse!

Image
Hey, Google! I'm a big fan of Google+. And I would love a way to automatically post all of my Plus posts to Blogger as well.  I can share this post to Google+ but the reverse would be great.
