We took our first camping trip to Ol' MacDonalds Resort out in Erskine this weekend, and it was lots of fun. Normally, we camp in Drumheller, but we've been looking for a place that's closer to Edmonton, and had heard good things about it, so we booked ourselves a spot. It did not disappoint. We left as soon as the kids were done school Friday afternoon. When we arrived, we were a bit overwhelmed, as it's a much bigger campground than the one we're used to in Drumheller (I've never needed an actual road map to get around a campground before). Our camping spot was nice - shaded, and spacious enough for two tents with lots of room left over. Friday night was basically setting up and building a fire. We quickly learned that the kids will eat anything as long as it's cooked in a pie iron over the fire. We woke up Saturday to a very cool and cloudy morning. I wasn't planning to build another fire in the a.m., but it was so freaking cold out that it did...

I'm still here. Just had a busy week and nothing struck my fancy enough to blog about it. Going camping this weekend, so I might have some photos to share next week.

Shame that my eagerness to see this means by the time it comes, winter will be at our doorstep.

I love this ad. Not because it reminds us that not everything we see on TV is real, but because it makes me realize that tiny hippos would be the cutest pets ever! Seriously .... if any of you mad scientists out there can make me a tiny hippo for a pet, I'd love to get one.

I picked up one of these babies today (A Giant Cypress DX). My wife got a similar model last week. I rode it and loved it, and decided to get one of my own. I've turned to cycling as my major form of exercise this summer because running is just causing me too many injuries. So far, I'm enjoying it greatly, and have been exploring the river valley trails for really the first time since I moved to Edmonton more than a decade ago. If I get really brave, I'll be ride to work a bit this summer, too.

Thanks to my 15-year-old daughter for showing this to me. Now I get to make fun of it. SATURDAY AFTERNOON EDIT: I'm not sure what's funnier - the fact that the video was one of the Jonas Brothers dancing (in high heels, no less) to Beyonce's "Single Ladies" or that less than 24 hours later, not only has the video been removed for copyright violation, the Official Jonas Brothers YouTube Channel has been suspended. Those 500,000+ subscribers must be pretty upset. SUNDAY MORNING EDIT: Video is back, so I guess things got worked out. No, I'm not going to go investigate this.
