TNA Global Impact - Jan. 18, 2008
I was very excited about TNA's Global Impact show last night, until I read that they were
only going to show one match - the Angle match - in its entirety.
But I
decided to watch it anyways, and am I glad I did. That was easily the
best TNA program ever, because it contained absolutely none of the crap
that ruins Impact on a weekly basis.
TNA managed to build up Angle's
match against Nagata better in 40 minutes than any match in the
company's history. I was actually excited to see the match when it
finally aired because Angle built the match as meaningful to him - he
had a title to defend and he wasn't about to lose it and tarnish TNA's
image in Japan.
Guess what? It worked a whole lot better than whether
AJ Styles was going to be on his side or not. Angle is amazingly
effective when presented as a serious wrestling machine, not a comedy
dork. And in between Angle's stuff they had wrestlers cutting real
promos at the news conferences building up their matches, not goofy,
scripted comedic nonsense while standing next to a blonde bimbo
interviewer.
They did a good enough job on this to get me interested in
buying the Global Impact DVD. It's amazing they did this so well, when
everything else TNA touches turns into dreck.
We'll return after these brief messages - Jan 15, 6:43 p.m.
Hey, Nicole! Stop reading my blog at school and get back to work!
It's pronounced "Patricia"

I was perusing the
Edmonton Sun online this morning and saw that Patrycja
Romanowska's column
had returned. I initially hired Patrycja as a columnist during my
tenure at the paper, and had to let her go a couple of years later due
to shifting corporate sands or some fool thing out of my control. At
any rate, it's good that she's back - she's a great writer.

The skinny on the new Starbucks
drinks - Jan
4, 6:32 p.m.
I
decided to try one of the new "skinny" (fat-free, sugar-free) mocha
drinks from Starbucks today, and, well, let's just say that I
completely agree with this
review that labelled it "thin, weak and infused with a weird
chemical flavor."
Not my most pleasant coffee experience ever.
So I'll be sticking with my regular, fattier mochas whenever I treat
myself to Starbucks.
And, boy, were their
faces red! -

I'm no

but ... -

I'm pretty sure that 1991 plus 13 years does not equal 2008.
As it turns out, it doesn't. An update, a few hours later ...
UPDATE: January 5: I'm reliably informed by a reader
that
the correction is still incorrect. Alberta actually got rid of the
front plate in 1991, making it 17 years later it might be brought back,
not 13.

Christmas
fun - Dec.

I
posted a few new videos today of the family enjoying some time at the
farm over Christmas. Shot in the wilds of Manitoba.
'appy New Year! -

...
although I have to say, as a Matt Hughes fan, that was as bad a
one-sided destruction as I'd ever want to see. Still, GSP is awesome.
