The enduring power of Internet Explorer

Image
I guess I shouldn't be terribly surprised that, halfway through 2011, Internet Explorer still accounts for nearly 50% of the traffic to this blog. What does surprise me, though is that Google Chrome is only 5 percentage points behind Firefox. I thought the gap would be a lot bigger. And I'm absolutely flabbergasted that the third most popular operating system coming to this blog is BLACKBERRY!?

Instagram: Am I missing something here?

Image
I noticed over the past week or two that a bunch of my Facebook friends have started using Instagram , a fairly recent newcomer on the social networking photo sharing scene. Apparently, Instagram is the New Big Thing in iPhone apps, although I seemed to miss the initial splash it made and am arriving late to the party. I played with it for a bit, and ... Facebook has its own photo sharing system that works a lot better than using Instagram to get a picture on Facebook. You can share pictures within your friends on the Instagram network. I'm not sure I want yet another social network to follow, thanks, particularly one that just shares photos. And Instagram also lets you "edit" and apply filters to your iPhone photos, ostensibly to improve the quality or look or something. Well, the photo on the left is an untouc

Discovering the new Fort Edmonton Park footbridge

Image
The new Fort Edmonton Park footbridge While biking some new trails last weekend in the west end, I was quite surprised to discover that a new $28 million footbridge had been under construction 3 miles from my house for the past couple of years and I had never heard a peep about it before. When fully complete, the bridge will link the west end to Fort Edmonton Park, which for me will mean a nice, easy 3.5 mile bike ride from my house to Fort Edmonton, which will be cool. According to the City of Edmonton website, the official grand opening of the bridge will be on the morning of June 18. For those in the west end of Edmonton, the north side trail to the bridge can be accessed off of Woodward Cres., which is off Wanyandi Way. (See map below, and crudely drawn circle indicating the trail entrance that takes you to the bridge.)
