Citrus-Mint gum? Why not!?

Image
My wife got a couple samples of the new Extra Citrus Mint gum the other day. Now, I like citrus gum a lot - any kind of intense combination of lemon/lime/orange flavored gum is chewing heaven for me. But it's very hard to find, as, apparently, I'm the only person on earth who likes that kind of gum. And, of course, I like mint gum. So what's the verdict on a gum that is both lemony and minty? Well, my wife put it best when she said, "It's awful when you start, but it gets better." The actual flavor combination is pretty terrible. Mint and lemon really don't go together well in my opinion, but the good news is that the mint vanishes pretty quickly, leaving a very pleasant, intense lemony flavor that I really enjoyed. So I'd probably buy this if I saw it in the stores and have someone pre-chew it for 15 seconds for me.

Downhere, live in Edmonton at Break Forth 2011

Image
These guys are, hands down, my favorite band in the whole world. And this is the third time I've seen them in concert in the last 2 years. It's always a great show. Here's a couple of videos I shot tonight.

Saturday weigh in - 180.6 lbs

Image
It's Saturday so it's time to check my weight: That's down about half a pound from last week, which is pretty good considering I had a pretty emotional week and exercised exactly once due to a lot of 12-hour days at the office. I found a neat iPhone app called TargetWeight that tracks your weight and BMI. Here's what my chart for the week looks like: So, it's a start. Hopefully I can break below 180 lbs. this week and keep it that way.

Casting Crowns at Break Forth 2011

Image
It's concert weekend at our household, with Casting Crowns last night and then Downhere tonight. This is my second time seeing Casting Crowns live, and I can't say enough good things about their live set (and live albums). I've said before that they're one of those groups that's just better live than on a record (digital bits, shurely). Last night they switched things up from the first time I saw them a few years ago by including an acoustic set designed mainly to showcase Melodee DeVevo's vocal talents. (Other female back-up/co-lead-singer Megan Garrett was absent, at home with a new baby.) It was a terrific show that provided me with my first opportunity to do a social media concert video. I tried uploading this during the show last night but both the Wifi and 3G signals in the Shaw Conference Centre were pretty degraded, so it had to wait for the drive home. It finally finished uploading at 11 p.m. last night and by the time I got up this morning, had

Saturday weigh in - 181 lbs

Image
This kinda blurry and ridiculously pixelated photo (that's what I get for using the zoom on my iPhone) is my current weight as of this morning. I want to get this number down, and I'm going to post a new picture every Saturday to help encourage (shame, shurely) myself to get it down.

Yes, we’ve gotten a lot of snow in Edmonton

Image
This is the pile of snow on the west side of our driveway. That’s a standard adult-sized shovel. We have basically run out of places to put it. And we’re supposed to get more snow this week.

This almost makes Canada's winters bearable

Almost.

First workout with Nike Training Club app

Image
I'm always looking for ways to shake up my workouts, and when I found out that the Nike Training Club workout app was free, I thought I'd give it a download and a whirl. As everyone points out, the app is geared towards women, but it's a useful as a general workout app for anyone who wants to work up a good sweat and doesn't have access to a gym or workout equipment. There's lots of different options to choose from ("Get Lean," "Get Strong," etc.) and beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. I started with the "Get Lean" beginner level, which was pushups, lunges, planks, squats, and assorted other similar exercises. And let me say: this workout kicked my butt. Hard. I really didn't think that a 30-minute workout consisting of 30-second, 1-minute and 2-minute mini-workouts would be so hard. But it was quite challenging and when it was done, I was quite done, thanks. I'm sure I'll use this app mostly on the weekend

Snowed in Saturday

Image
It's a cold and snowy Saturday in Edmonton, and I haven't posted anything here in a while, so here's an update: • I have bronchitis. I sucks. I'm coughing a lot. Today is Day 13 of being sick - first a bad head cold and now the bronchitis. Yes, I've seen a doctor. I'm getting better but it's taking a while. The good news is I almost never get sick. The bad news is that because I almost never get sick, this is like Armageddon for my body. • Normally I hate gigantic snowfalls like the one that is still coming down because I hate shoveling snow. But we bought a snowblower before Christmas. It took us 30 minutes to plow ourselves out today. Our neighbor across the street was shoveling for 2 hours. Yay us! • I watched the first disc of the Chris Jericho DVD the other night. It's awesome. • Yes, that's a cat curled up in a blanket halfway on the floor. She's weird like that.
